Emissions allowance programs

Your supply-chain emissions are a cost. Make them a program you run.

Origin Ledgers provides the infrastructure for companies to establish, manage and settle their own emissions allowance programs. Your company defines the market. Origin Ledgers runs the infrastructure.

How a program runs

A cap, a schedule, participants and settlement.

The company operating the program sets the rules. Participants operate within them. Emissions above the allowance are settled with validated carbon credits.

01

Establish

Define the emissions boundary, reach an assured baseline and set a declining trajectory anchored to an external framework.

02

Allocate

Issue allowances to participants individually, as a pool, or both.

03

Measure

Measure actual emissions against each allowance position.

04

Settle

Emissions above the allowance create a carbon-credit requirement. Origin Ledgers allocates validated carbon credits to the program and holds them for it until they are retired. Program credits are assigned to participants. The underlying carbon credits are retired in the originating registry, naming the participant or program as beneficiary.

05

Record

PVN validates and reconciles each lifecycle event. Origin Ledgers records the resulting program state.

An allowance is not a credit, and it never becomes one.

Allowance
IssuedAllocatedSurrendered

A private contractual permission to account for 1 tCO₂e within a program and period.

Issued by the company operating the program.

Surrendered at period close.

Carbon credit
Registry-issuedAllocatedAssignedRetired

A registry-issued environmental asset representing 1 tCO₂e.

The originating registry remains authoritative.

Retired when used for settlement.

Allowance surrender. Carbon credit retirement.

The infrastructure

One infrastructure. Three layers.

LEDGERS operates the allowance market. Origin Ledgers supplies validated carbon credits when a program requires them, sourced from project developers under approved registries. PVN validates and reconciles the lifecycle events that connect them.

How it extends

Accountability moves with the commercial relationship.

A participant in one program can establish its own, extending the same mechanism to its suppliers. A company taking part in several programs does so from one Origin Ledgers account. It completes KYC/KYB once, and each company operating a program decides admission independently.
